Whilst Pinterest is a tool that I no doubt use for procrastinating and 'wasting' 2+ hours of my day all the time it can be a useful tool to increase your blog traffic if you utilize it properly.
Here's what you need to do in order to see a difference.
- Use Pin-able images on your blog
- It's important to use high quality images, whether they are your own or they are copyright free stock images.
- All of your edits should be done in a similar format. This makes your blog look more put together.
- Ideal Pinterest optimized images are twice as tall as they are wide.
- If you have an image in your post that contains typography, or is an image with an inspiring quote it is MUCH more likely to get re-pinned. Pinstamatic is a good tool for creating pin-able quote graphics.
- Have a visible Pin It button hovering above all of your images
- Make it extremely easy for visitors to your site to pin images for later reference.
- Pin your own images on to your 'Blog' Board ; every time you post.
- Keep your Pinterest Boards well organized and updated
- Well organized blogs with useful content attracts followers, and those pinterest followers can easily translate to blog followers.
- Pin regularly across different boards
- You can get more exposure for your pins by pinning them to different relevant boards over a spread out period of time.
- Re-pinning old posts to a new board can also bring a traffic boost.
- Verify your site on Pinterest
- Verifying your site basically lets you 'claim' your site.
- Once you've verified your site you have access to the Pinterest analytics feature. Analytics are useful to see how your marketing is going and which posts have the highest click-through rate etc.
